Friday was our last time with Professor Horsley and Professor Park and we learned about some of the engines we had seen on Thursday's field trip, such as the rotary engine. We also learned about micro-electro-mechanical systems which I did not even know existed! They are what creates the sound in speakers and measures acceleration in cars. The lunch break was fun playing frisbee and relaxing on the campus hammocks. Yes, there are public hammocks at the quad for anyone to use! At night, we went to the "Star Party" at the arboretum where people had set up telescopes. It was a beautiful clear night and I got to see Saturn's rings, a ring nebula, and the Milky Way.
The next morning, we loaded up on buses and visited San Francisco. As a resident of SoCal, I felt more like a tourist than my Bay Area friends, but they showed me around on Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. I had so much fun walking around the unique shops. Because we're such nerds, we actually spent a long time at the puzzle store. For lunch, I had the classic clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl at Fisherman's Grotto. The few hours of free time flew by really fast and soon we were on a boat which toured around the bay and under the Golden Gate Bridge. To remember this amazing day, I bought a key chain of the sea lions we saw at the pier. That day was super fun and almost the whole bus fell asleep on the way back home.

It was almost as if we brought the San Fran fog back with us because Sunday was overcast and it even drizzled a bit. The weather was a nice change from Davis's usual 90s/100s. It was a relaxing day after the exciting field trip. I managed to get some work done then my friends swam at the Rec Pool (in the rain!) After dinner, we treated ourselves out to boba, or as the people here call it, PMT (pearl milk tea).
